US Foundry gray iron castings are provided unpainted as a standard. The painting of construction castings only serves to enhance the initial cosmetic appearance, sometimes even hiding defects, and does not add appreciable protection to the long-term performance of the product.
By nature, grey iron castings are highly resistant to corrosion caused by most environmental elements, without the need for additional treatment. AASHTO specifications for construction castings specifically call for unpainted castings.
This policy is for cast iron products only, and will not affect other products such as steel grating or steel access doors. In addition, US Foundry does have the ability to paint castings for specific applications, upon request.
