NPDES PHASE II STORM WATER PRODUCTS
The Environmental Protection Agency Storm Water Phase II amendment of the Clean Water Act is part
of the tiered implementation strategy of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES),
intended to improve the quality of water.
U.S. Foundry has a wide range of cast iron catch basins, grates and inlet covers permanently cast with
several fish and manatee emblems and “DUMP NO WASTE, DRAINS TO ...” messaging. U.S. Foundry
castings are an effective, low cost means to discourage illicit dumping. Unlike stenciled messages or
other short-lived approaches, our environmentally friendly designs serve as an enduring directive
against dumping. U.S. Foundry is proud to play an active role in protecting water quality.
Your existing standards can also be customized with appropriate messages and images. We will work
with you to provide products that build public awareness of the dangers of water pollution and its impact
on your local waterways, while maintaining complete interchangeability with your installed product base.
Some of our currently available options can be found throughout our “Cover Types” section, pages M-7
thru M-14. Please contact us for more information.
TRENCH DRAINAGE
U.S. Foundry trench grates used in applications including, but not limited to, loading docks, walkways,
entrances, parking lots and garages are shown on pages CI-17 thru CI-20. Trench grates are all heavy
duty loading. Various sizes and ADA compliant grates are listed with frames that are available. For solid
covers, sizes other than shown or special loading applications contact your sales or customer service
representative.
CUSTOM SIZES
U.S. Foundry’s steel fabrication ability enables us to produce custom grates, frames and covers to meet
all your special requirements.
CROSS REFERENCE CHARTS
We have included cross-reference charts on State Department of Transportation standard items for
Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee. These are
shown on pages CR-1 thru CR-5. For more information on these or any other standards, please contact
your sales or customer service representative.
CHOOSING AN APPLICATION:
All data in this catalog is presented to assist the users in their selection of products for their particular
application. U.S. Foundry does not recommend or specify any product for particular uses or applications.
The choice of a product for a specific use such as bicycle, pedestrian, wheelchair, etc. is solely at the
discretion of the specifier.
PAINTING & NO PAINT POLICY
U.S. Foundry gray iron castings are provided unpainted as a standard. The painting of construction
castings only serves to enhance the initial cosmetic appearance, sometimes even hiding defects, and
does not add appreciable protection to the long-term performance of the product.
By nature, grey iron castings are highly resistant to corrosion caused by most environmental elements,
without the need for additional treatment. AASHTO specifications for construction castings specifically
call for unpainted castings.
This policy is for cast iron products only, and will not affect other products such as steel grating or steel
access doors. In addition, U.S. Foundry does have the ability to paint castings for specific applications,
upon request.
